Issues for Girl Scout Series
The following are part of Girl Scouts of the USA’s Issues for Girl Scouts series. The booklets, written for specific age levels, include the latest information on a topic, hands on activities and stories. An adult guide for each topic is also available.

1. Girls Are Great - This contemporary program deals with the unique problems of "Growing Up Female." Each age level has activities that are specific for that age level. The activities attempt to provide positive ways for coping with the stresses of growing up female, provide avenues for overcoming sex-role stereotypes, and help girls enjoy being girls.

Girls Are Great patches can be ordered from the Council Shop for those girls who successfully complete the "Girls Are Great" activities.

2. Connections - The information and activities in this contemporary issues resource will enable Girl Scout leaders to help girls make connections to their own heritage as well as to people who are different from them in areas ranging from race to social status.

3. Read to Lead - This contemporary issue encourages girls to develop their reading and writing skills and use these tools in creative ways to explore the world.

Read to Lead patches can be ordered from the Council Shop for Daisy through Senior Girl Scouts.

4. Media Know-How - The information and activities in this contemporary issues resource will help girls think more critically about what they hear, see, and read in the media. Media sources looked at include television, radio, film/videos, magazines, and the Internet.

5. In the Zone: Living Drug Free – These booklets encourage girls to find their
“zone” by living a positive, healthy and drug-free life.

In the Zone patches can be ordered from the Council Shop for Daisy, Brownie
and Junior Girl Scouts and for Girl Scouts ages 11–14 and 14–17.
