Girl Scout Program: Patch Programs

IN THE PUBLIC EYE

Public Relations Patch

Purpose: Girl Scouting plays an important role in your community and in order to showcase the"good news" of Girl Scouting, Girl Scouts - Sybaquay Council has developed a public relations patch, In the Public Eye.
Requirements: To earn this patch a troop must complete at least four of the following requirements, including the one starred requirement, and complete the report form.

In the Public Eye patches are available for purchase at the Council Shop.

1. *Participate in a troop activity in public view. Visibly identify yourself as Girl Scouts (in a parade, community service project, caroling, etc.). Identifying yourself as Girl Scouts: If making posters or banners, be sure to identify the council, your service unit (optional), your town (optional), and your troop level and number. Always include the words Girl Scout after your age level. Example:

Girl Scouts - Sybaquay Council
Senior Girl Scout Troop 3000

OR

Girl Scouts - Sybaquay Council
Apache Service Unit - Elgin
Brownie Girl Scout Troop 2400

Marching in a parade: Parade banners are available for check out from the Girl Scout office. Call ahead to reserve.

2. Create a Girl Scout display in a public place (library, school, store window, church, etc.). Creating a Girl Scout display: If you need Girl Scout logos for your display, contact the director of communications at the Girl Scout office. A number of Girl Scout posters are also available.

3. Make and display posters promoting and/or recruiting Girl Scouts (at school registrations, kindergarten roundup, school open house, church socials, etc.).

4. Create an imaginary advertising campaign with Girl Scouting as your product. Include slogan, radio and TV spots, and newspaper or magazine ads.

OR

Make a video tape commercial that promotes Girl Scouting.

5. Have your service unit publicity representative take pictures of your group in action (at a ceremony, bridging, special event, doing badge work, etc.) and put it in the newspaper.

OR

If your service unit has no publicity representative, send an article and picture to the local newspaper for publication.

Please, remember that the public's impression of Girl Scouting is affected by the activities of everyone in the Girl Scout Movement. Girls' behavior during a parade, community service project, or field trip will influence the way the community views Girl Scouting.
