Any girl between the ages of 5 and 17 may become a member of Girl Scouts. She must accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

You can join at any time during the year and at any age level:

  • Daisy Girl Scouts, ages 5 -6, in grades kindergarten or grade 1
  • Brownie Girl Scouts, ages 6 - 8, in grades 1, 2, or 3
  • Junior Girl Scouts, ages 8 - 11, in grades 3, 4, 5, or 6
  • Girl Scouts, ages 11 - 13, in grades 6, 7, or 8
  • Girl Scouts, ages 13 - 15, in grades 8, 9, or 10
  • Girl Scouts, ages 15 - 17, in grades 10, 11, or 12

You can be a Girl Scout in many different ways:

  • Join a troop with a group of girls and a couple of adults in your area.
  • Register as a Juliette (independently registered girl) and get regular updates by mail on council program events and opportunities.
  • Sign up for Girl Scout camp - you may chose from day camp and resident camping opportunities.
  • Participate in a short-term interest group - get together with other girls for a few months to focus on one topic.
  • Register for a specific council program activity.

Cost of Membership

Membership in Girl Scouts costs $10. That money goes directly to Girl Scouts of the USA for program development, insurance, and other services provided by the national organization. Financial assistance is available to girls who need help defraying the cost of membership.

Girls in troops/groups typically set weekly or monthly dues.

Girl Scout handbooks are highly recommended, but not mandatory. Financial assistance, if approved, can be made available for a handbook.

Girl Scout uniforms are recommended, but not mandatory. Financial assistance, if approved is available for a Daisy Girl Scout tunic or a sash or vest.

Council program activities typically have a fee relative to the cost of the activity. Financial assistance is available, if approved. Girls may also use "Cookie Dough" or "J-Buck" towards the cost of the camp fees (earned by participating in Sybaquay's fall product or Girl Scout cookie sale).

Girl Scout camp is an additional fee that varies with type of camp (day/twilight or resident) and length of session. Again, financial assistance is available if approved. Girls may also use "Cookie Dough" or "J-Buck" towards the cost of the camp fees (earned by participating in Sybaquay's fall product or Girl Scout cookie sale).
